Latest COVID-19 numbers in New Jersey

North-JerseyNews.com has changed how we cover COVID-19 as the pandemic moves to an endemic. While we will still provide reporting on any major developments in regards to the pandemic, we will be breaking out the most recent numbers from the state’s dashboard instead of including them with a story as we have done since March 2020. It is our belief that this will still provide you with a complete picture of COVID in our community while allowing us to continue to cover other issues of importance in North Jersey. 

COVID-19 cases: 

New daily PCR cases: 691; Probable Cases: 276

Total Cases: 2,189,639 (1,890,703 PCR cases, 298,936 probable cases)

New Confirmed Deaths: 14 (7 probable deaths, 33,186 total deaths)

Rate of Transmission: 0.88, up from 0.86 the day before

Percent Positivity: 2.3% as of March 17; by region, the rate was 2.3% in the North, 2.5% in the Central region and 1.8% in the South.

By County:

Bergen County: 116 New Cases, 48 Probable Cases, 3,098 deaths, 322 probable deaths 

Essex County: 51 New Cases, 19 Probable Cases, 3,281 deaths, 311 probable deaths 

Hudson County: 109 New Cases, 26 Probable Cases, 2,492 total deaths, 221 probable deaths 

Morris County: 32 New Cases, 32 Probable Cases, 1,226 deaths, 298 probable deaths 

Passaic County: 43 New Cases, 14 Probable Cases, 2,125 deaths, 200 probable deaths 

Sussex County: 8 New Cases, 3 Probable Case, 382 deaths, 88 probable deaths 

Warren County: 12 New Cases, 1 Probable Case, 313 deaths, 27 probable deaths

Hospitals 

Hospitalizations: 392 (134 North, 139 Central and 119 South)

Patients in intensive care units: 75

Patients on ventilators: 43

Patients discharged: 41

The state dashboard showed 69 of 71 hospitals in the state reporting

Long-term Care Facilities

Facilities currently reporting one case: 197 (2,394 overall)

Current number of residents: 5,322 (47,280 overall)

Current number of staffers: 5,774 (38,241 overall)

Number of Deaths: 9,365 overall (8,525 reported by facilities, 149 staff deaths)

Vaccine 

Total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered in New Jersey: 14,374,262 (13,807.032 in-state, plus an additional 567,230 administered out-of-state)

Fully Vaccinated: 6,806,842 (6,580,494 in state and another 226,348 out of state) By county,  718,895 in Bergen County, 589,463 in Essex, 526,363 in Hudson, 384,989 in Morris, 358,150 in Passaic, 92,422 in Sussex, and 60,320 in Warren.

Booster Shots: 3,197,139  (1,764,355 Pfizer, 1,365,539 Moderna and 67,245 Johnson & Johnson)

    Just follow the R0 transmission rate, which has been steadily creeping up from 0.71 to 0.88 over the past few weeks. Once it exceeds 1.0, it means the pandemic is surging exponentially, again.
    Then, watch as hospitalizations and deaths follow, shortly thereafter.
