COVID Hospitalizations Top 700 in New Jersey for First Time Since March

North-JerseyNews.com is changing how we cover COVID-19 as the pandemic moves to an endemic. While we will still provide reporting on any major developments in regards to the pandemic, we will be breaking out the most recent numbers from the state’s dashboard instead of including them with a story as we have done since March 2020. It is our belief that this will still provide you with a complete picture of COVID in our community while allowing us to continue to cover other issues of importance in North Jersey.

COVID-19 cases:

New daily PCR cases: 3,384; Probable Cases: 1,517

Total Cases: 2,300,407 (1,979,452 PCR cases, 320,955 probable cases)

New Confirmed Deaths: 14 (0 probable deaths, 33,517 total deaths)

Rate of Transmission: 1.22, down from 1.24 a day before

Percent Positivity: 12.5% as of May 6; by region, the rate was 12.5% in the North, 13.6% in the Central region and 10.4% in the South.

Bergen County: 492 New Cases, 233 Probable Cases, 3,127 deaths, 325 probable deaths 

Essex County: 300 New Cases, 126 Probable Cases, 3,298 deaths, 313 probable deaths 

Hudson County: 285 New Cases, 79 Probable Cases, 2,500 total deaths, 221 probable deaths 

Morris County: 216 New Cases, 127 Probable Cases, 1,243 deaths, 304 probable deaths 

Passaic County: 174 New Cases, 77 Probable Cases, 2,133 deaths, 204 probable deaths 

Sussex County: 41 New Cases, 30 Probable Cases, 386 deaths, 89 probable deaths 

Warren County: 34 New Cases, 7 Probable Cases, 315 deaths, 27 probable deaths

Hospitals 

Hospitalizations: 720 (268 North, 254 Central and 198 South)  March 4

Patients in intensive care units: 74

Patients on ventilators: 36

Patients discharged: 107

Long-term Care Facilities

Facilities currently reporting one case: 257 (2,635 overall)

Current number of residents: 2,867 (49,202 overall)

Current number of staffers: 2,638 (39,297 overall)

Number of Deaths: 9,049 overall (8,582 reported by facilities, 139 staff deaths)

Vaccine 

Total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered in New Jersey: 14,468,792 (13,966,032 in-state, plus an additional 502,760 administered out-of-state)

Fully Vaccinated: 6,885,131 (6,683,007 in state and another 202,124 out of state). By county,  727,312 in Bergen County, 598,054 in Essex, 533,939 in Hudson, 389,112 in Morris, 362,498 in Passaic, 93,435 in Sussex, and 61,285 in Warren.

Booster Shots: 3,691,169 (2,031,539 Pfizer, 1,588,225 Moderna and 71,405 Johnson & Johnson)
