New Jersey Records Most New COVID-19 Daily Cases Since January

North-JerseyNews.com is changing how we cover COVID-19 as the pandemic moves to an endemic. While we will still provide reporting on any major developments in regards to the pandemic, we will be breaking out the most recent numbers from the state’s dashboard instead of including them with a story as we have done since March 2020. It is our belief that this will still provide you with a complete picture of COVID in our community while allowing us to continue to cover other issues of importance in North Jersey.

COVID-19 cases:

New daily PCR cases: 4,551; Probable Cases: 1,850

Total Cases: 2,306,574 (1,984,015 PCR cases, 322,559 probable cases)

New Confirmed Deaths: 12 (1 probable death, 33,529 total deaths)

Rate of Transmission: 1.22, the same as the day before

Percent Positivity: 13.6% as of May 7; by region, the rate was 13.8% in the North, 15.4% in the Central region and 10.3% in the South.

By County:

Bergen County: 622 New Cases, 161 Probable Cases, 3,130 deaths, 325 probable deaths 

Essex County: 436 New Cases, 104 Probable Cases, 3,299 deaths, 313 probable deaths 

Hudson County: 330 New Cases, 93 Probable Cases, 2,500 total deaths, 221 probable deaths 

Morris County: 325 New Cases, 75 Probable Cases, 1,245 deaths, 304 probable deaths 

Passaic County: 218 New Cases, 63 Probable Cases, 2,133 deaths, 204 probable deaths 

Sussex County: 80 New Cases, 20 Probable Cases, 387 deaths, 89 probable deaths 

Warren County: 36 New Cases, 13 Probable Cases, 315 deaths, 27 probable deaths

Hospitals 

Hospitalizations: 704 (261 North, 237 Central and 206 South)  

Patients in intensive care units: 70

Patients on ventilators: 30

Patients discharged: 153

The state dashboard showed all 71 hospitals in the state reporting

Long-term Care Facilities

Facilities currently reporting one case: 264 (2,643 overall)

Current number of residents: 2,940 (49,276 overall)

Current number of staffers: 2,692 (39,351 overall)

Number of Deaths: 9,049 overall (8,586 reported by facilities, 139 staff deaths)

Vaccine 

Total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered in New Jersey: 14,471,009(13,968,249 in-state, plus an additional 502,760 administered out-of-state)

Fully Vaccinated: 6,886,905 (6,684,781 in state and another 202,124 out of state). By county,  727,510 in Bergen County, 598,247 in Essex, 534,149 in Hudson, 389,206 in Morris, 362,597 in Passaic, 93,450 in Sussex, and 61,314 in Warren.

Booster Shots: 3,703,061 (2,038,045 Pfizer, 1,593,507 Moderna and 71,509 Johnson & Johnson)
