North Jersey COVID-19 Hospitalizations Highest Since February

An updated list as of July 19 from the New Jersey Department of Health

North-JerseyNews.com is changing how we cover COVID-19 as the pandemic moves to an endemic. While we will still provide reporting on any major developments in regards to the pandemic, we will be breaking out the most recent numbers from the state’s dashboard instead of including them with a story as we have done since March 2020. It is our belief that this will still provide you with a complete picture of COVID in our community while allowing us to continue to cover other issues of importance in North Jersey. 

COVID-19 cases:

New daily PCR cases: 2,849; Probable Cases: 1,145

Total Cases: 2,552,342 (2,178,282 PCR cases, 374,060 probable cases)

New Confirmed Deaths: 11 (8 probable deaths, 34,174 total deaths)

Rate of Transmission: 1.11 for a second day in a row

Percent Positivity: 11.9% as of July 14; by region, the rate was 12.4% in the North, 11.4% in the Central region and 11.5% in the South

By County:

Bergen County: 338 New Cases, 130 Probable Cases, 3,187 deaths, 336 probable deaths 

Essex County: 280 New Cases, 101 Probable Cases, 3,329 deaths, 313 probable deaths 

Hudson County: 359 New Cases, 85 Probable Cases, 2,526 total deaths, 221 probable deaths 

Morris County: 165 New Cases, 109 Probable Cases, 1,277 deaths, 306 probable deaths 

Passaic County: 132 New Cases, 62 Probable Cases, 2,163 deaths, 204 probable deaths 

Sussex County: 47 New Cases, 20 Probable Cases, 404 deaths, 98 probable deaths 

Warren County: 21 New Cases, 16 Probable Cases, 319 deaths, 27 probable deaths

Hospitals 

Hospitalizations: 1,004 (451 North, the highest since Feb. 17; 312 Central; and 241 South)  

Patients in intensive care units: 94

Patients on ventilators: 22

Patients discharged: 97

The state dashboard showed 68 of 71 hospitals in the state reporting

Long-term Care Facilities

Facilities currently reporting one case: 368 (2,950 overall)

Current number of residents: 4,803 (52,667 overall)

Current number of staffers: 4,916 (42,555 overall)

Number of Deaths: 9,407 overall (8,665 reported by facilities,139 staff deaths)

Vaccine 

Total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered in New Jersey: 14,622,791 (14,117,608 in-state, plus an additional 505,183 administered out-of-state)

Fully Vaccinated: 6,969,487 (6,764,740 in state and another 204,747 out of state). By county,  735,512 in Bergen County, 606,526 in Essex, 540,418 in Hudson, 392,958 in Morris, 366,275 in Passaic, 94,213 in Sussex, and 62,095 in Warren.

Booster Shots: 4,099,855 (2,260,788 Pfizer, 1,765,823 Moderna and 73,244 Johnson & Johnson)
