North Jersey COVID-19 Update

North-JerseyNews.com is changing how we cover COVID-19 as the pandemic moves to an endemic. While we will still provide reporting on any major developments in regards to the pandemic, we will be breaking out the most recent numbers from the state’s dashboard instead of including them with a story as we have done since March 2020. It is our belief that this will still provide you with a complete picture of COVID in our community while allowing us to continue to cover other issues of importance in North Jersey.

COVID-19 cases:

New daily PCR cases: 1,773; Probable Cases: 762

Total Cases: 2,735,732 (2,320,810 PCR cases, 414,922 probable cases)

New Confirmed Deaths: 8 (9 probable deaths, 34,731 total deaths)

Rate of Transmission: 1.13 for a second day in a row

Percent Positivity: 10.9% as of Sept. 23; by region, the rate was 11.0% in the North, 10.8% in the Central region and 10.8% in the South

By County:

Bergen County: 220 New Cases, 85 Probable Cases, 3,226 deaths, 336 probable deaths 

Essex County: 152 New Cases, 59 Probable Cases, 3,361 deaths, 312 probable deaths 

Hudson County: 162 New Cases, 28 Probable Cases, 2,565 total deaths, 221 probable deaths 

Morris County: 75 New Cases, 60 Probable Cases, 1,312 deaths, 306 probable deaths 

Passaic County: 110 New Cases, 53 Probable Cases, 2,189 deaths, 205 probable deaths 

Sussex County: 26 New Cases, 15 Probable Cases, 409 deaths, 97 probable deaths 

Warren County: 11 New Cases, 11 Probable Cases, 325 deaths, 29 probable deaths

Hospitals

Hospitalizations: 936 (373 North; 293 Central; and 270 South)  

Patients in intensive care units: 123

Patients on ventilators: 36

Patients discharged: 170

The state dashboard showed all 71 hospitals in the state reporting

Long-term Care Facilities

Facilities currently reporting one case: 359 (3,204 overall)

Current number of residents: 7,462 (57,761 overall)

Current number of staffers: 6,983 (46,106 overall)

Number of Deaths: 9,709 overall (8,790 reported by facilities, 139 staff deaths)

Vaccine 

Total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered in New Jersey: 14,788,996 (14,270,223 in-state, plus an additional 518,773 administered out-of-state)

Fully Vaccinated: 7,063,892 (6,852,165 in state and another 211,727 out of state). By county,  743,095 in Bergen County, 616,130 in Essex, 547,748 in Hudson, 397,223 in Morris, 370,351 in Passaic, 94,904 in Sussex, and 62,745 in Warren.

Booster Shots: 4,287,305 (2,370,626 Pfizer, 1,842,700 Moderna and 73,979 Johnson & Johnson)
